Adult ADHD Treatment
Adults who suffer from ADHD often struggle more than children for one reason: the childhood protections that helped them overcome their inattention and impulsivity be socially supervised, despite the mundane requirements of daily life are no longer in place. Fortunately, add treatments for adults combined with medication can aid.
Psychotherapy is a common part of therapy for adults suffering from ADHD. Cognitive behavioral therapy may also be part of the therapy.
Support Groups
Support groups are a powerful source of comfort when participants discover — sometimes for the very first time — that they’re not the only ones. While many of these support groups are led by peer groups however, there are also national organizations that host regional events and networking. ADDitude magazine offers a number of virtual peer-support groups to its readers. These include groups for adults who have been diagnosed with ADHD, couples affected by ADHD and intellectually gifted adults, and those looking for jobs.
Meetings are usually scheduled at times and locations, but online support groups are available to help those with scheduling conflicts connect with other members from across the country. A quick Google search will yield a variety of virtual options and new groups are formed all the time as ADDA readers share their individual needs and life experiences. A majority of these groups are completely free but some charge a cost to cover costs for advertising and to pay speakers.
